fire safety in the living room
Many fires which begin in the living room are the result of a careless smoker. In fact, smoking is the number one cause of fire fatalities. If there are smokers in your family, be sure they use deep wide rimmed ashtrays set on a nearby table. NOT on the arm of a chair or on their laps. Also make sure smoldering cigarette butts are extinguished before everyone goes to bed. Other precautions for cigarette smoking and general fire safety in the living room include.
1. If a smoker drops a lit cigarette into a chair or sofa, he/she should get up immediately, find and remove the cigarette, then check to be sure the upholstery is cool to the touch.
2. Smoking demands extra care when you're sleepy, when drinking alcohol, or when taking medications. Of course you should NEVER smoke in bed or when "dozing off" in a reclining chair.
